Lakes Magnet Middle School will be hosting a culture building day focusing on kindness and character Monday, Jan. 9.

The young women of the school will be involved in a Kind Campaign. Female students and staff will view a documentary film called "Finding Kind" that explores female relationships and girl-on-girl "crime." It dives into why girls are so mean to each other and what people can do about it; it really comes down to the idea that we can all choose to be kind.

The young men of the school will learn more about what it means to be a man of character. Noah Couser, a former Lakes student, will be the guest speaker of the day. Through small group discussions, team building activities, and the example of Couser and the school’s staff, the young men will learn what it means to have and grow character. The program will ask the young men to think about what it means to be character strong.

By the end of the day students will be invited to sign a Kind Pledge or a Character Pledge as a reminder and a promise to come to school each day with character and kindness.

A free community screening of "Finding Kind" will be held Jan. 9 at 6 p.m. at the Kroc Center. Again, this event is free and open to the public. All parents and students are welcome and encouraged to attend.
