Officer sentenced for DUI, still employed by Post Falls

A Post Falls Police officer charged with excessive DUI in November was sentenced Wednesday and is still employed by the city.
Brenda Knight was sentenced to six days in jail and an $800 fine. Her charge of excessive DUI was amended down to regular DUI.
Knight was also required to attend Alcohol Drug and Information School and attend a DUI victims panel.
The state's repository didn't note if any of Knight's days in jail would be suspended. Due to a conflict of interest, Latah County was required to take the case, but attempts by The Press to reach the county's prosecutors for details were unsuccessful.
On Nov. 19, Kootenai County Sheriff's deputies and medical personnel were dispatched to the area of Boekel Road and Forestdale near Rathdrum for a possible injury crash, one which was reported by two separate parties.
Deputies found Knight in a Jeep in a ditch, where she showed signs of alcohol consumption, according to a police report. Field sobriety tests were performed and Knight was cited for excessive DUI after her blood-alcohol level showed .25, more than three times the legal limit.
Knight was never booked into jail, per the Sheriff's office, but was released to a sober driver who took her home.
Post Falls Police Chief Scot Haug told The Press that Knight is still employed by the city, but couldn't comment on her standing.
“State law does not allow me to discuss personnel issues," Haug said in an e-mail. "I can confirm that Officer Knight is, and will remain, employed by the city."
