ST. MARIES — Kaylee Auer scored 13 of her team-high 21 points in the second quarter, including her first 3-pointer of the season, as the St. Maries Lumberjacks rallied to beat the Grangeville Bulldogs 69-55 in a Central Idaho League game on Saturday.

“The basket looked pretty big to her tonight,” St. Maries coach Jay Sines said of Kaylee Auer, who finished with eight rebounds and five blocked shots. “She did a great job on both offense and defense.”

St. Maries outscored Grangeville 24-6 in the second quarter after trailing 18-14 after the first.

“It all started with our defense,” Sines said. “We held them to six field goal attempts in the second quarter and our defense just tightened up. Kaylee did a great job of posting up at the basket and hit a 3-pointer to spark our offense.”

Kelsey Auer had 17 points and eight rebounds, Madison Cordell eight assists and Shelby Holder 16 points and four steals for St. Maries (9-3, 2-0 CIL), which travels to Wallace on Tuesday.

COEUR d’ALENE — Nina Carlson had 14 points and 11 rebounds and Lauren Rewers had 14 points, eight rebounds and six blocked shots to lead the Timberwolves past the Wildcats of Wenatchee.

“We played really well defensively,” said Lake City coach Bryan Kelly, who was without three starters, including junior forward Keara Simpson, who suffered a hyperentended knee in Thursday’s loss to Post Falls. “We had a short bench, but were able to play a good zone defense and get some pressure on their shooters and get some rebounds out of it. Lauren and Nina did a good job of putting everyone where they needed to be.”

Capi Halliday had 11 points for Lake City (12-2), which hosts Lewiston in a 5A Inland Empire League game on Tuesday.

“I thought Capi did a good job coming off the bench today,” Kelly said. “Hopefully we’ll be at a full squad early next week.”

SANDPOINT — Grace Kirscher tallied 15 points and dished out five assists, but a poor second quarter proved costly, as the Bulldogs lost to the Eagles in a nonleague game at Les Rogers Court.

Trinity Golder added nine points, Katherine Kaul four points and five boards and Danika Tomazich three steals in defeat for the Bulldogs (5-9).

“We got off to a good start, came out and got after it. Then we kind of hit a lull,” described Bulldogs head coach Duane Ward. “There were bright moments and great hustle plays tonight.”

Grace Phan scored 15 points to lead the Eagles (7-5), who drained eight shots from beyond the arc as the Bulldogs struggled with their perimeter defense.

“He (Spartans coach Gary Stewart) just extended his 2-3 zone to half court, and we kinda melted down with it,” Coeur d’Alene Charter coach Doug Grant said. “It took us out of our rhythm.”

Kelly Ruebke had 11 points, and Sandy Faulkner added 10 points and 12 rebounds for Coeur d’Alene Charter (9-4, 0-3). Grant also praised the play of freshman post Imelda Bresee, who chipped in eight points (on 4-of-4 shooting), nine rebounds and four blocked shots off the bench.
