Kootenay holds off Chiefs

SPOKANE — Reed Morrison scored in the ninth round of a shootout, and the Kootenay Ice beat the Spokane Chiefs 3-2 in Western Hockey League play in front of 5,373 at the Spokane Arena on Saturday.

Spokane is now 0-2 this season in shootouts.

Kootenay opened a 1-0 lead after the first period, scoring a shorthanded goal with 25 seconds remaining in the period. Spokane evened the score on a Keanu Yamamoto power play goal late in the second period before Kootenay regained the lead with 18 seconds remaining.

Jaret Anderson-Dolan scored his 19th goal of the season to tie the score 2-2 midway through the third period.

Jakob Walter stopped 45 shots for Kootenay, which was outshot 47-24.

Spokane (17-16-5-2, 41 points) hosts Seattle tonight at 5:05.
