MOSES LAKE — Moses Lake overcame poor efficiency from the free throw line and on the defensive end to beat Eastmont 72-62.

Zach Phillips scored 13 of his game-high 30 points in the first quarter.

“We just came out with a lot of energy because we were at home,” Phillips said.

West Valley, led by Justin Van De Brake's 39 points, downed Moses Lake 61-52 on Saturday. Phillips scored a team-high 16 points.

Warden splits two games

WARDEN — Warden rallied to down Kiona-Benton 47-46, but fell to River View 67-48.

Adam Richins led the Cougars with 19 points against the Bears.

Othello loses to Prosser, Ellensburg

OTHELLO — Scott Blakney scored 26 points and Prosser beat Othello 62-44.

Michael Gutierrez led the Huskies with 13 points.

Ellensburg pulled away to beat Othello 71-53. Kyler Villarreal scored a team-high 17 points.

TONASKET — Soap Lake lost at Tonasket 72-53.

Warden drops a pair

WARDEN — Warden let a 13-point lead get away against Kiona-Benton, losing 51-46. The Cougars lost to River View on the road 60-39.

Bailey Whitney scored a team-high 15 points against Kiona-Benton and 14 points against River View.

Tonasket 51, Soap Lake 18

TONASKET — Soap Lake dropped a road game to Tonasket 51-18.

Moses Lake seventh at Gut Check

BREMERTON — Moses Lake took seventh at the fourth annual Gut Check Tournament.

Nick Hara (132) and Hunter Cruz (152) finished second; Daiman Vasquez (182) was eighth; and Payton Castro (195) was sixth.

Moses Lake travels to Pasco for a dual against Chiawana on Wednesday.

Melo, Jones runners-up at Pacific Northwest Classic

SPOKANE VALLEY — Othello was fifth overall at the Pacific Northwest Classic with 139 points.

Mead totaled 233.5 and won the tournament.

Chris Melo (106) and Reese Jones (170) were runners-up. Collin Freeman (152), Bernie Garza Jr. (160) and Chemi Cantu (285) all took fourth.

Othello second at Kelso Invitational

KELS0 ­— Othello crowned one champion and finished second at the expansive Kelso Invitational.

Yelm pulled away on Day 2 to win the team title with 242 points. Othello was the runner-up with 217.5 points; Central Washington Girls Wrestling League members Sunnyside and Warden finished third and fourth, respectively, with 177 and 175 points.

“Overall it was great, great competition,” Othello head coach JJ Martinez said. “It was great exposure.”

Nikki Velazquez (130) withstood some antics in the semifinals, beating Yelm's Carly Smith by disqualification before dispatching state runner-up Auna Carpio of Decatur in the finals 8-1.

“Nikki stayed poised through adversity and through some bad decision-making from the other end,” Martinez said. “She let her wrestling do the taking.”

Kaylee Martinez (145) lost to two-time state champion Jasmine Parker-Borrero in the semifinals 12-5 before ralling to finish third; freshman Emily Mendez (100) also took third.

Elizabeth Giles (135) and Victoria Mendoza (170) finished fifth.

Warden had two runners-up: Aaliyah Escamilla (100) and Mariah Garza (110). Escamilla lost to Kenzie Cormier of Enumclaw 4-0 and Garza lost to Viktorya Torres of Granger by fall in the third round.

Men's college basketball

Big Bend 79, Blue Mountain 66

MOSES LAKE — Jacob McCord stuffed the stat sheet with a 20-20 game and Big Bend beat Blue Mountain 79-66.

McCord totaled 24 points and 21 rebounds for the Runnin' Vikes. Joey Andrews and Zach Shepard scored 14 points each.

Big Bend moved to 2-0 in the NWAC East with the win. The Runnin' Vikes host Spokane Wednesday at 8 p.m.

Women's college basketball

Big Bend 72, Blue Mountain 69 (OT)

MOSES LAKE — Big Bend overcame a seven-point halftime deficit to outlast Blue Mountain in overtime 72-69.

Sunnie Martinez and Hailey Garrity scored 16 points apiece.

Sophomore post Maryah Tipping added 10 points and pulled down seven rebounds.

Big Bend is tied for first place the NWAC East at 2-0 with Spokane and Yakima Valley.

The Vikings host Spokane Wednesday at 6 p.m.
