SPIRIT LAKE — Freshman Isaiah Evans, who bumped up a weight to 113, defeated Brandon Downs 7-2 in the final match to clinch the 39-34 win by the Timberlake Tigers against the Priest River Spartans in the War of the Waters at Timberlake High on Thursday.

Evans was coming off a fifth-place finish in the Rollie Lane Invitational last weekend in Nampa.

“It was nice to see a freshman step up against a good wrestler and win a big match,” Timberlake coach Kelly Amos said.

Amos had praise for two other freshmen — Caleb Miller, who came through with a pin at 138, and Joey Follini (152), who avenged a loss earlier in the season to Larry Naccarato with a 7-5 victory.

“We were missing several of our starters,” Amos said. “We had eight freshmen in the lineup, so it was nice to come away with a win.”

Timberlake competes at the River City Duals today and Saturday at Post Falls.
