MOSES LAKE — Charlene Sanislo sat down in front of the pile of Starburst candies on the alley side table that have been a part of coach Carolyn Johnson's tradition, not quite sure what her emotions were telling her.

It was senior night at the Russell house and she was one of three Moses Lake seniors bowling for the last time at Lake Bowl. The Chiefs (6-7, 5-6 Big Nine) easily dispersed of AC Dais 3-1, rolling an 804 series in the first game.

For Sanislo, along with her sister Courtney and Emily Brotherton, it was the final home match.

“To tell you the truth, I feel really sad,” said Sanislo, who holds the team's high average with 166.56. “It's been a fun four years. I didn't bowl particularly well tonight. But this team got really close and I'm going to miss them. We have three juniors and a sophomore coming back and I think we'll be very competitive.”

Charlene is the lone senior in the varsity lineup. She contributed games of 168 and 157 for an average of 162.5. Kerisa Sanislo was a few pins back with games of 165 and 156, giving the Chiefs a solid one-two punch in their five-bowler lineup. But what made that nice was that Kerisa was well over her 144-pin average.

Camille Sanislo had the high game with 190 in the 804 series to help the Chiefs overpower Davis (1-11, 0-11). Maddy Garza improved 40 pins from the first to the second game, rolling a 166 in the second.

“We went through balance skills and drills trying to get their form first, then we worked into finding their target to hit consistently,” said Johnson, whose team sits fifth in the Columbia Basin Big Nine. “There's so many factors, how they come out of their ball. The more the girls can get down here to bowl, the faster they pick it up. Some girls have that natural ability, but see the growth is awesome.”

Eastmont (11-1, 10-1 Big Nine) remains the conference team to beat at this point in the season. Eisenhower (9-3, 9-3) is currently in second and Wenatchee (8-5, 8-4) head up the second tier.

“I didn't start bowling until my junior year, so I'm new to the sport. But I learned a lot and I made some good friends and had fun,” Brotherton said. “All my friends are here and it was really fun to represent Moses Lake wherever we went.”
