MOSES LAKE — A Moses Lake woman was charged for allegedly assaulting two Moses Lake police officers while drunk.
Grant County prosecutors charged Monica Cooper, 44, of Moses Lake, with two counts of third-degree assault.
On Jan. 1 the Moses Lake Police Department received a call in reference to a disturbance at a restaurant in the 900 block of North Stratford Road. Police were advised two intoxicated subjects were at Rock Top Burgers & Brew, despite having been previously trespassed from the business, according to police records.
Police responded to the area and reportedly contacted Cooper at the Glass House Car and Dog Wash on North Stratford Road. The officer who contacted Cooper reported being able to smell a strong odor of intoxicants on her breath and her eyes were bloodshot. Cooper admitted to being drunk and allegedly poked the officer in his chest several times. She allegedly grabbed her belongings and started walking to the road, which the officer took as an attempt to flee the scene. The officer brought Cooper to the ground and while on the ground, Cooper allegedly lifted her right foot and kicked the right side of the officer’s head.
“The kick hurt my head and at this point I determined the female was actively resisting. I believed if I did not take immediate action she would continue to kick me in my head,” wrote the officer. “I then delivered a strike to the left side of her face with my right hand in a closed fist. I could feel the female was continuously lifting her feet, I believe in (an) attempt to kick me again.”
Cooper allegedly kicked the officer in the head again and attempted to grab the officer in the groin area of his uniform. The officer reportedly hit Cooper with a Taser twice to get her to calm down and cooperate, but she continued to resist. Another MLPD officer arrived at the scene and was kicked by Cooper as well, according to police records. Cooper continued to act aggressive when she was placed into the back of a patrol car and transported to Samaritan Hospital in Moses Lake for an evaluation.
