Penalty kill fails Chiefs in loss to Seattle

KENT, Wash. — The Seattle Thunderbirds went 3 for 3 on the power play, two of those by Alexander True, and beat the Spokane Chiefs 6-4 in Western Hockey League play Sunday night before 5,003 at ShoWare Center.

In the previous six matchups with Seattle this season, Spokane had been 18 for 18 on the penalty kill.

Kailer Yamamoto scored two goals for Spokane, and now has a team-leading 28.

Spokane (18-2-5-2, 43 points) is now seven points back of Seattle for the third and final playoff spot in the U.S. Division, and two points behind Portland for the second wild-card spot in the Western Conference.

Seattle, which led 6-2 before the Chiefs scored twice in the final 5:28, now leads the season series 4-3.

Spokane plays host to Seattle on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Spokane Arena.
