OTHELLO — The 60th Annual Greater Othello Chamber Awards Banquet and Raffle has been scheduled for Friday, Feb. 24, and will feature some changes.

“This year we are doing something different,” Chamber Manager Bianca Mendoza said.

The banquet will feature the unveiling of the new community branding package for Othello, bringing an end to the project which began late last year. Mendoza encourages anyone who would like to see the finished product to attend the banquet.

The banquet will be held at the Bethel Assembly of God Church, 915 S. First Ave. A social hour and a silent auction will begin at 5 p.m. The program will begin at 6 p.m.

Every year, four community awards are given, including civil servant, citizen, teacher and business of the year. Public participation in nominating is greatly appreciated.

“We encourage the public to nominate who they think is deserving,” Mendoza said.

Nominations may be made online at www.chamberofothello.org, or in person at the chamber office. The deadline for nomination submissions is Feb. 10.

Instead of a live auction, this year’s event will include a reverse-raffle instead. A reverse-raffle works by drawing every ticket out. The point is to not have your ticket drawn until the very end, the last ticket drawn will take the grand prize.

Smaller prizes will be awarded in increments of drawn tickets, and a consolation prize will also be given in a round with any remaining tickets.

The chamber is accepting sponsors for the banquet and banquet tables, Mendoza said. Each table seats eight guests, and sponsors will be able to decorate their table to promote their business and provide party favors for each seat.

Guests will able to vote on the best decorated centerpieces, after which the centerpieces will be entered into the silent auction. Last year’s winner for best decorated centerpiece was the Othello Beautification Committee.

The banquet will feature catering by the Othello Golf Club and Lounge. Dinner tickets are $30 per person if purchased in advance, or $35 at the door.

Raffle tickets are $25 per ticket and are on a limited first come-first served basis. Tickets may be purchased at Columbia Bank, Basin Insurance, Paty’s Second Hand Store, Remax and the Chamber office.

For banquet information or questions, email or call Mendoza at 509-488-2683 and manager@othellochamber.org, or stop by the chamber office.
