BONNERS FERRY — Two males were taken into custody Saturday afternoon after a traffic stop quickly escalated into a multi-agency pursuit.
According to Boundary County public information officer Michael Meier, the two males, Shawn Williams, born 1970, and Gregory Krenv, born 1975, are wanted for escaping from a Washington state detention facility and are being held on a no-bond warrant. Boundary County Sheriff David Kramer said the pair attempted to elude a Boundary County Sheriff’s deputy when he attempted to pull them over about 1 p.m. The individuals led law enforcement to the top of Blume Hill off U.S. Highway 2 before abandoning the vehicle and fleeing on foot down the hill.
Law enforcement from the Boundary County Sheriff’s Office, Bonners Ferry Police Department, Kootenai Tribal Police Department, U.S. Forest Service, U.S. Customs, and U.S. Border Patrol apprehended the two suspects near District 2 Road at about 2:30 p.m., with the assistance of the Border Patrol K-9 drug and tracking dogs.
“It was quick response and great teamwork by all of the agencies involved,” Kramer said. “We were able to resolve the situation without incident.”
Kramer said controlled substances were found in the vehicle, but will have to be tested before releasing more information.
Two female passengers who did not flee the scene were released.
