MOSES LAKE — Morgan Yamane, using the entirety of her 5-foot-7 frame, seeled Bothell's 6-foot-2 post Taya Corosdale for an offensive rebound that also drew Corosdale's third foul.

The Moses Lake bench exploded, knowing Corosdale — an Oregon State commit and the 27th ranked player nationally — would have to sit for the final five minutes of the first half.

It was one of a litany of team plays that allowed Moses Lake to stun fourth-ranked Bothell 55-43.

“Last week was something that was a big lesson for us and I think that it was something that really brought us together,” Abby Rathbun said. “We knew that we had to bring our game tonight because that was not a good loss last week. That was a huge win for us today and I am so proud of my teammates.”

Rathbun, a junior forward known for her athleticism and defense, drew the primary assignment on Corosdale. Corosdale scored on Bothell's first possession, but was limited in the first half due to foul trouble.

Corosdale had eight points in three quarters, finishing with 17 total — a majority coming when the game was out of reach.

“I'd be interested to talk to number five and see if she's played against somebody tougher (than Rathbun),” head coach Matt Strophy said. “She scored almost her average. She's been averaging 18 and a half points, she got 17 tonight, but she got 10 of those late in the game and they weren't against Abby.

“I think Abby did a fantastic job defensively and still had the energy on the offensive end to finish.”

Rathbun finished with 14 points, trailing only teammate Jamie Loera's 17.

Offensively, Loera ebbed and flowed between scorer and facilitator. The junior point guard was more of a distributor in the second quarter, scoring only two points but helping five of her teammates account for 16.

Loera took over to start the second half with six straight points and an assist to Maggie Strom for a corner three-pointer that extended the lead to 16 points.

“We have to stick together against this team and in order to win we have to play together,” Loera said. “That's why we say 'together' through our breaks so just distributing to them was so nice because they were able to move and I was really able to look for them.”

Loera's assist to Jessica Olson in the fourth quarter gave Moses Lake its largest lead, 53-34.

Moses Lake will have an opportunity to beat the top-ranked team in the Ratings Percentage Index poll in two straight weeks with a home game against undefeated Sunnyside on Friday.

“We've just got to keep rolling like we know we have to do and keep playing Chief basketball,” Rathbun said. “That's what we need to do to get to state.”
