A retirement party was held for Roman Zylawy on Friday, Jan. 20 at the St. Regis Community Center.

The 52-year-old retired from the Montana Highway Patrol at the end of December, after serving 27 years. The party, which sported over 50 people, was a dinner for fellow patrolman, emergency and plow workers, friends and family.

After eating a meal of roast beef and chicken, attendees came up to the microphone and spoke about their memories of Zylawy, and wished him well in his retirement.

A smaller gathering was held at the River Edge in Alberton on Dec. 26. Also, awards for his years of service, along with ceremonial flags, were presented to him in Helena on Dec. 30. Zylawy thanked several people for coming. Especially, one fellow patrolman, Eddie, who had traveled all the way over from Glendive.

Throughout the evening, a slide presentation was shown. Photos of a young Zylawy in his patrolman uniform appeared on the screen. Along with photos of him and his young children, twin boys Kenley and Roman, Wyatt, and daughter, Amber.

“It’s been an honor and a pleasure, having served with you, and for Mineral County,” he said in his final remarks.

No major flooding as snow thaws

“As the ground starts thawing, the rocks start falling,” was a post made on the Mineral County Sheriff’s Office’s Facebook page last week. A photo accompanied the post of a big rock which had come down on Mullan Road East near the Big Eddy fishing access in Superior on March 11. “Please be aware of your surroundings and pay attention while driving,” they warned in the post.
