Genevie ‘Gen’ Logue, 62

Genevie “Gen” Logue, 62, of Spirit Lake, Idaho, passed away very suddenly Jan. 19, 2017, at Kootenai Health in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, from complications of the flu and infection. She was born Genevie Mecham on Sept. 8, 1954, in Panguitch, Utah. She was the daughter of Richard and Barbara Mecham.

Gen was raised in the small town of Tropic, Utah (which is situated at the bottom of Bryce Canyon National Park). She graduated from Tropic High School in 1972 and went to beauty school for a year in Cedar City, Utah.

Gen met her future husband, William E. Logue (Bill), while still in high school. They were married on Sept. 15, 1973, in Tropic one year after she graduated.

She is survived by her loving husband and best friend of 44 years, Bill Logue; her sister, Amelia Barkdull and her children, Sherrie, Shelly, Kara and Katy; her brother, John Henry Mecham and his children, Landon and Summer; and her sister, Larue Berry and her children, Barbara, Misty, Crystal and Hillary. On her husband’s side there are just too many to write down, but they know who they are. Any life she ever touched became her family.

Gen and Bill moved to Spirit Lake in May 1989. At that time Gen went to work for Miller’s Food City. She spent her first 10 years there working in the meat and deli department, then transferred to the grocery department where she spent another 17 years. The Miller family became our family and vice-versa almost immediately. She adopted and loved everybody she worked with in the store.

She loved children and they loved their “Aunt” Gen. Summer visits to Aunt Gen’s for the Fourth of July was a favorite vacation destination for many. The house always had room for one more and the dinner table overflowed into the backyard to accommodate all who were invited. Gen, camera in hand, would flitter through the crowds at these happy gatherings capturing photos of all of us. We will always treasure these photos and will miss the chronicler of our youth and our progeny from the time they were babes in arms to the day they were joined with their spouses to renew the cycle of life.

Gen loved doing crafts of any sort, and she was so gifted. Reading and solving puzzles were other favorite pastimes. She loved her Kindle and spent many an hour in the tub soaking and listening to the Kindle generic voice read her favorite mystery. More than once one of the little ones who came to visit would ask, “Who is that man in the bathroom with Aunt Gen?”

Gen loved her animals and was always willing to add one more to her collection. Often these arrived with infirmities and were nursed back to health. Gen was deathly afraid of water. But, she conquered her fears and took swimming lessons, and eventually learned to water ski. She loved camping in the beautiful northwest, but would not go without her curling iron. She loved to snow ski (as long as she did not have to leave the bunny hill.) If the sun was out, Gen was trying to perfect her tan (actually the sun didn’t need to be completely out as long as it occasionally peeked through the clouds, she was game for a little tanning session). The sun will miss her as we all will.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 27, 2017, at Yates Funeral Home, Hayden Chapel, 373 E. Hayden Ave., Hayden, Idaho. A reception will follow. Please come and share your stories and help celebrate her life.
