ASPEN, Colo. — Whitefish skier Maggie Voisin finished seventh in the inaugural X Games women’s ski big air competition, landing one big jump while having trouble mid-air during the event.

Voisin, who has competed in some of the top big air competitions the last few seasons, was expected to be one of the stars of the first-time event at the prestigious X Games, but couldn’t land the her jumps cleanly on Saturday.

She opened with a 900, scoring a 26 out of 50 possible points to move into fourth place after the first round.

Voisin had to bail on an attempt at a corked switch 720 on her second run, but cleaned up the trick on her third jump to score a 32, pushing her combined score to 58, good for fifth place after three jumps.

She couldn’t better either of those scores, however, bailing on a switch 1080 in her fourth jump and landing a switch 900 in her final run, releasing her hold early.

Germany’s Lisa Zimmermann won the competition in historic fashion, landing the first switch double cork 1080 in women’s history to score an event-best 47, pairing with an earlier score of 38 to win the competition with an 85. Her monster jump allowed her to edge Estonian phenom Kelly Sildaru, who landed two 42-point jumps.

Sildaru, just 14 years old, won the slopestyle event earlier this season at Dew Tour in Breckenridge, Colorado, and the X Games slopestyle last season.

Switzerland’s Giulia Tanno finished in third place.

Voisin will be back on the hill at 10 a.m. today to compete in the women’s slopestyle event. She finished second in the competition in 2014.
