July 2, 1967 — TO VIETNAM TWICE
Capt. Alexander Russell left Sunday for his second tour of duty in Vietnam. He visited the News-Bulletin office last week to make sure he had his copy of the News-Bulletin mailed to him while overseas. A helicopter pilot, Capt. Russell is the son of Mrs. Mae Davis, Sandpoint.

YOUTH TO ATTEND INSTITUTE
Frank J. Bair, Route 1, Sandpoint, is one of 75 high school boys from six states enrolled in the 12th annual junior engineers and scientists summer institute at Oregon State University.

JAMBOREE TO USE MICROWAVE TOWER
Telephone calls from the XII World Jamboree at Farragut State Park will take their first bounce towards destinations in all parts of the globe by a 90-foot multi-channel microwave tower at the northeast corner of the former Navy brig.

SEA SCOUTS TRY SAILBOATS
Eight Sea Scout Ship 100 members, skipper Vern Eskridge and first mate Sterling Williver drove to Camp Easton on Coeur d’Alene lake, where a fleet of 10-foot Sea Scout sailboats were made available to them. The sailing experience was a great success. Participating Sea Scouts were Bill Vallieres, Wayne Brown, Allen Largent, Tim Ross, Chris Compton, Frank Delamarter, Ken Gee and Jeff Mapps.

July 2, 1917 — RED CROSS BENEFIT
Pictures of the great passion play, with about 200 scenes from the time of Christ, will be shown at the Presbyterian church Thursday at 8. Price of admission will be: Adults 25c, children 15c.

FOURTH OF JULY CELEBRATION
Sandpoint’s Fourth of July celebration will be held in the Ridley addition, one mile west of town. Nothing will be left undone to make the day one long remembered by those joining the jollifications. An open air dance will be one of numerous features, and dancing will continue throughout the day and night. Ten per cent of net proceeds will be donated to the Red Cross.

WEATHER HAMPERS EXCURSION
Sunday’s boat excursion from Sandpoint to Lakeview to aid the Red Cross netted $27. Due to inclement weather, many planning to join the excursion were compelled to abandon the idea.

COMMISSIONED SECOND LIEUTENANT
Dr. and Mrs. E.B. Patterson received a telegram from their son, Howard, in training at the Presidio, stating he has been commissioned as second lieutenant. Several Sandpoint men are in training at the California camp but this is the first report that a local boy has received a commission.
