Locals shine in District Golf Tournament at Desert Aire

MATTAWA — Area high school golfers finished at or near the top of the leader boards at the District 4 Sub-District 3 Tournament held at Desert Aire Golf Course in Mattawa Thursday, June 29.

Leading the way for the 16-18 year-old girls was Ephrata High School phenom Kenedee Peters who carded a course record 2-under 70 on the day. Peters, one of the biggest local talents on the links, shot 36 on the front and followed up with a 34 on the back nine. Cassie Kim from Davis High placed second with a 1-over 73. East Valley’s Morgan Baum and Samantha Hui from Southridge shot 74 to tie for third.

Boys 16-18

West Valley’s Max Turnquist blew away the competition with in a 1-under 71 on the par 72 course. Kamiakin’s Parker Morgan was a distant second with a round of 78. Chase Marquette from Cle Elum, Shane Amidan (Richland) and McGwire Hanson (Kamiakin) shot 81 to tie for third.

Boys 14-15

Kamikin’s Tommy Beason set the pace with a 2-over 74. Clayton German carded an 81 to place second. Othello’s 2A state champion Patrick Azevedo and Connell’s Joe Hays shot 12-over par to tie for third. Evan Harvill from Burbank ended his round with an 89, which was good enough to place seventh on the day.

Royal Knights extend win streak to 33 games

BENTON CITY — Sawyer Jenks tossed three first quarter TD passes, the Knights defense created five turnovers, and Royal skinned the Ki-Be Bears 49-0 in a SCAC East Conference tilt in Benton City Friday. The lopsided victory kept the State’s longest win streak in tact at 33 games.
