BONNERS FERRY — Moyie Mudbogs is a combination of mud, trucks, food and good company, as evidenced by the last-minute event over the weekend of June 30-July 4.

The Moyie Mudbog is a place for people to get together, get muddy, and push their vehicles to the limit. With a rock climbing run, a dry course, the iconic mud pit, and plenty of camping space, owner Bruce Behrman set up the ultimate layout for an epic weekend for all to enjoy.

“This is the best event I’ve ever been to,” said Teresa Lummus, also fondly known as Batgirl. “This time was last minute and was small compared to the spring and fall events. October will be a blast!”

Lummus explained how her brother got her into the non-competitive sport. “He wouldn’t let me drive, and it made me mad, so I got my own rig. It was a completely stock Jeep and I raced around everyone. I was told to slow down a lot, and my response to that was: slowing down gets you stuck. When you go fast, you skip across the mud like a rock over water.”

The sport is extremely hard on the vehicles. Lummus spoke of the time she broke one of many axles, and her mechanic brother welded it together with pieces of a steel bed frame, to get through the weekend.

Even without a rig to run through the courses, the Moyie Mudbog attracts spectators to come and watch the fun. Occasionally, drivers offer spectators rides through the courses, for those brave enough to accept the challenge.

There is a long fence next to the mud pit that allows a safe view of the course and security guards help keep things going smoothly, including helping to free rigs that have been bested by the mud.

The Moyie Mudbogs provided an outlet for thrill seekers to test their rigs against the elements, while meeting with old friends, and making new ones. From stock vehicles to custom-built rigs, all found their own adventures over the sunny weekend.
