Entertainment for the Kootenai River Stampede PRCA Rodeo on Aug. 4 and 5 at J. Neils Arena in Libby will include The McMillan Family Trick Riders. Comprised of five siblings ranging in age from 7 to 15, the family has performed at rodeos across the country for the last six years.

“From their ranch in Soap Lake, Washington, the McMillan Family consists of dad, mom and 10 kids,” a news release states. “They run cattle and are rodeo stock contractors providing stock throughout the Northwest. Each youngster is fully involved in the ranching and rodeo business, competing at both amateur and high school rodeos over the summer when they are not trick riding. To balance out their lives, they take the winters off to concentrate on their school academics and sports.”

The Kootenai River Stampede committee “is an entirely new organization dedicated to providing the Libby community with a top-notch professional two-day rodeo,” the news release continues. “Each day will be a separate rodeo giving the contestants the opportunity to compete for separate prize monies both days. The committee’s intentions with this change is to keep the contestants in Libby longer, thus providing a greater financial impact than normal.”

According to the news release, committee members are “diligently working hard” to ensure the long-term viability of the event and have been contacting businesses to help support it in any way.

The rodeo is PRCA-approved and “key members responsible with forming the new committee are highly respected PRCA card members which will help draw top talented PRCA competitors,” the news release states.

This year’s rodeo was scheduled the first weekend in August and will start at 8 p.,m. to coordinate with the Sandpoint, Idaho and Great Falls, Montana rodeos.

Tickets can be purchased in Libby at Timberline Auto Center, Libby Chamber of Commerce, Homesteaders Ranch and Feed Supply, High Spirits Liquor Store, The Printing Press and Libby’s Closet. In Troy, tickets can be purchased at The Silver Spur Restaurant.

Tickets cost $10 in advance and $15 at the gate. Kids under 6 will be admitted for free.
