July 16, 1967 — MAYOR FOR COMFORT

You can’t beat this area for summer informality and Mayor Floyd Gray set out to make it official in the following proclamation: “Now that summer is in full swing it seems appropriate that man should be more comfortable than formal and not be encumbered by a too-tight tie and stiff collar. Therefore, I, Floyd L. Gray, mayor of The City of Sandpoint, declare the period from now until Labor day to be a time for wearing what is comfortable, including sport shirts and no neck ties, a time for shedding of top coat, white shirt and tie. This is the season for relaxation and man should bend every effort toward that goal.”

TO ALTER BUILDING FOR LIBRARY

Sandpoint city council Monday accepted a bid by of $30,451 by Milton Thompson of Emerald Custom Homes, to renovate and remodel the old post office building into a new city library.

PAVING PROJECT SPARKS DEBATE

Various ideas on a paving project at Sandpoint Senior High extended Tuesday’s School District No. 82 trustees meeting. Trustee V.A. Verhei sparked discussion by objecting to the district paying to gravel a parking lot across Division street from the school. After a site tour, the issue came to a vote on a motion to approve the project without the lot at Division and Michigan. The lot belongs to First Baptist Church, whose members have granted the school several years’ use.

July 16, 1917 — CITY BREVITIES

A.M. Pitcher and family of Samuels have moved into the city, locating at 601 Cedar street.

R.F. Curtis and family yesterday established themselves in the Franklin cottage at Sunnyside for ten days’ recreation.

Grocers report strawberries abruptly dropped off the market, due to the scorching weather.

Arrangements are being made for a fall street fair in Sandpoint. Alderman Shedler went among the business men this week to secure prizes.

The planking on the county bridge across the Pend d’Oreille is becoming badly worn and the county commissioners figure it will have to be replanked yet this season.

The school apportionment, based on the July census of the state’s schools, has been made by the state auditor. The census in Bonner county shows 3,275 children of school age.

LITTLE CHANGE IN I.W.W. SITUATION

The I.W.W. strike situation in the county remains much the same. The Dover and Humbird camps and the White camp out of Laclede are shut down and the Lane camp at Wrencoe is running with about half a crew.

It is a well known fact that the local branch of the I.W.W. is well provided with money for the support of its idle members.
