Three of five fires in the Highway 2 corridor have been 100 percent contained, while firefighters continue to make progress on the remaining two.

A road closure related to one of them — Thompson Road in the vicinity of the Lazier Creek 3 Fire — was lifted 6 a.m. Sunday.

Monday morning, the Lazier Creek 3 Fire was reported at 1,145 acres and 70 percent contained with 362 personnel assigned, according to a fire incident information website. The fire is located south of Highway 2 and west of the Thompson River Road.

“Firefighters on the northeast portion of the fire worked to extinguish a small spot fire yesterday,” the website reports. “(Monday), crews in this area will continue to grid the fire area for remaining hot spots. Firefighters on the remaining fire perimeter made good progress with mop up operations working several hundred feet into the interior.”

The Rogers Mountain Fire located three miles northwest of Happy’s Inn was reported Monday morning at 78 acres and 90 percent contained with 47 personnel assigned.

“Firefighters will continue to grid the interior of the fire for any remaining hot spots as occasional smokes are still occurring in areas of unburned fuel,” the website reports.

Meanwhile, the 16-acre Grubb Fire, 12-acre NW Meadow Peak Fire and four-acre 2645 Fire were all reported 100 percent contained as of Monday morning, with six to 12 firefighters assigned to each to “remain on scene to patrol the fire.”

The fire weather forecast called for cooler temperatures and lighter winds Monday and for the relative humidity to continue to drop.

A Thompson’s Type II Incident Management Team has been managing the five fires, which were caused July 8 by lightning strikes.
