Week's Entertainment blooms with a local flair

SANDPOINT – It’s all about the local entertainment scene this week, as every facet of the arts is represented in some shape or form.
Tonight, Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist and Sandpoint native Marilynne Robinson speaks about the need to stand and defend public education at the Panida. Music Conservatory of Sandpoint offers a master class and concert this evening and another concert Friday afternoon.
Also on Friday, Bridges Home Trio makes one of its rare local appearances, with a special show at the Pend d’Oreille Winery and the Garden of Artistry fine art show opens at the Ponderay Garden Center.
Plus, films at the Panida, live music all around town and outdoor events to make a summer day even sweeter.

Marilynne Robinson on Defending Public Education

Time: 7 p.m.
Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist and Sandpoint native Marilynne Robinson will speak about the need to defend public education in this important community event.

Music Without Borders Concert & Master Class
Venue: The Heartwood Center, 615 Oak St., in Sandpoint.
Time: Master Class with Spokane Youth Symphony conductor Dr. Phil Baldwin starts at 4 p.m.; concert begins at 6 p.m.
A concert featuring Music Conservatory of Sandpoint summer camp exchange students and high-achieving MCS student mentors, preceded by a master class with the conductor of the Spokane Youth Symphony.

Wyatt Wood
Venue: MickDuff’s Beer Hall, 220 Cedar St., in Sandpoint.
Time: 6 p.m.
Come out for our Thursday night solo music series featuring Spokane Valley native Wyatt Wood.

Devon Wade
Venue: 219 Lounge, 219 First Ave., in Sandpoint.
Time: 9 p.m.
Put on your best dancing boots, because one of the region’s best country rock bands is playing on the patio!

‘American Bandstand Revisited’
Venue: Circle Moon Theater, located on Highway 211, 3 1/2 miles north of Highway 2, near Newport.
Time: 6:30 p.m. dinner service, curtain opens at 7:30 p.m. – Thursday (additional shows on July 21 and 22)
Featuring unleashed headliners doing solo and ensemble performances inspired by artists who appeared on American Bandstand.
Admission: $25 per person for dinner and show, or $12 for show only. Senior and youth tickets $10.

Friday, July 21
Bridges Home Trio
Venue: Pend d’Oreille Winery, 301 Cedar St., in Sandpoint.
Time: 5-8 p.m.
It’s one of the rare occasions when this local trio of lead vocalists and multi-instrumentalists actually get to play a show in their own hometown. Come a little bit early and snag one of the best ‘listening tables,’ then settle in for an evening of sparkling three-part harmonies and intricately woven instruments in Celtic, folk, roots and originals. See you there!

MCS Sounds of Summer Concert
Venue: North Summit Church, 201 N. Division St., in Sandpoint.

‘Lost in Paris’

When Fiona’s orderly life is disrupted by a letter of distress from her 88-year-old Aunt Martha who is living in Paris, Fiona hops on the first plane she can and arrives only to discover that Martha has disappeared.
