ROYAL CITY — Food, fun and activities for all ages were abundant throughout Lions Park over the weekend for the annual Royal City SummerFest.

Festivities kicked off Thursday with 3x3 soccer in the park, followed by a free showing of the movie “The BFG.”

Friday evening saw dancing, singing, and various other performances as locals had the opportunity to strut their stuff during the Royal’s Got Talent show. While in the park, a BBQ was served along with a performance by Wenatchee based band, Shy-Anne. A firework show brought the evening to a spectacular end.

The annual Glow Run 5K also took place Friday evening and saw nearly 200 participants.

Saturday’s festivities began with a free breakfast in the park and 3x3 basketball. The Grand Parade followed, and saw familiar faces throughout the community including this year’s grand marshals Patrick and Dorothy Lee.

The park stayed busy throughout the day with various games, contests, blow up toys, laser tag, food, vendors and exhibitions, including the annual Car Show. Joan Gunter was the winner of this year’s quilt exhibition with her depiction of a tree with the caption “Families are forever” stitched below.

One such exhibit included the Watercolor Art in the Park which featured 114 entries: 81 participants from Royal City, and 33 from Othello, St. George, Utah; Wenatchee, Ellensburg, Prosser, Cashmere, Kent, Warden and Moses Lake.

Entertainment was provided by groups such as dancing horses, mariachi, Sam’s Dancers, local folkloric dancing, Toby Black’s Dance FX, Anjelina Jalomo “DIVA TEJANA finalist,” Innizio Nortena, and a photo booth provided by Feller Orthodontics.
