July 25, 1967 — HELMETS STUDIED
A public hearing to determine the type of protective headgear to be worn by motorcycle and motor scooter riders after next Jan. 1 will be held Aug. 10 in Boise. A law requiring the headgear passed in the 1967 Idaho Legislature.

DON ENGLE NAMED MAN OF THE YEAR
Sandpoint Lions Club honored members at an installation dinner at the Travlers. Highest award for “Lion of the Year” went to Don Engle. Dick Andersen, Ed Eitzman, Gene Chamberlain and Louis Michalk were also cited. Dell Brown gave out the awards and William Nordeen emceed.

PROPER ATTIRE TO VISIT PATIENTS
Jim Breinich, Bonner General Hospital manager, asks that hospital visitors wear proper clothing, saying the real problem is with those who come into the hospital in bare feet during the summer. “We have a constant problem in a hospital at any time just keeping unwanted germs out. Bare feet just complicate the work of hospital personnel,” said Breinich.

OSPREY SIGN PARSONS’ BRAINCHILD
A sign was placed at the south end of the long bridge to call attention to the osprey nesting area at the outlet of Lake Pend Oreille into Pend Oreille river. Jim Parsons, one of a very few who can name most of the lake’s osprey and eagle nest locations, is the sign’s sponsor promoter.

On account of the unusually warm weather the swimming is fine and a large per cent of the population can be seen disporting themselves in the water every afternoon.
The Youngster’s club held their annual picnic Sunday across the lake from Sunnyside. They went over in J.W. Ramsey’s launch and had a good time, all going swimming in the afternoon.

GOVERNOR HERE ON I.W.W. MISSION
Governor Alexander’s visit to Sandpoint, on his excursions from his “summer capital” at Coeur d’Alene, is today. He slipped into town last night over the S.I. from Bonners Ferry where he concluded that Sheriff Sawyer’s drastic methods against the I.W.W.s met with his approval.
The governor’s first place of interest here was I.W.W. headquarters where he appeared shortly after 8 o’clock. Today he met with the city council and conferred with Sheriff Remer. He will give a public address on the school ground at 4 o’clock.

CITY BREVITIES
Mr. and Mrs. James Folden decided life is too short to spend in continuous work in a cafe and decided to close “Jim’s Place” for eight weeks to enjoy an outing. They will spend part of the season touring in their new Hudson Super-Six.
