Basin roundup: Spuds reach final four of state tournament

SPOKANE — Central Washington stayed alive at the Legion AAA State Tournament, beating Bellingham Post 7 12-10 for a spot in the semifinals.
The Spuds led at one point 7-1 and overcame seven errors during Bellingham's rally.
Zach Valdez got the start and was able to chew up 5 2/3 innings with three strikeouts. Blake Sidwell pitched 3 1/3 innings of relief and had two strikeouts.
The Spuds set the tone with a five-run first inning. Wade Visker, Austin Valdez and Ezekyel Ochoa hit RBI singles. The Spuds made it 7-1 in the third inning when Ezekyel Ochoa drove in his third run of the game and Daniel Ochoa hit a sacrifice fly ball that scored Austin Valdez. Ezekyel Ochoa finished 3-for-4 with three RBI and one run scored.
Bellingham drew to within one run, 8-7, after scoring twice in the fourth inning and four times in the sixth.
Central Washington added four more runs over the final three innings to create some breathing room.
Austin Valdez and Sidwell hit back-to-back RBI doubles in the eighth inning.
The Spuds will play the Pepsi-Pak for the sixth time this season today and will have to win twice to advance.
East Portland 11, River Dogs 5
KELSO — The River Dogs lost their second game of the 13 - 15-year-old Babe Ruth Regional Tournament to East Portland 11-5.
East Portland led 5-1 after two innings. The River Dogs tied the game 5-5 after scoring three runs in the sixth inning, however, East Portland pulled away with a six-run seventh inning.
The River Dogs outhit their competition 9-7, but committed five errors.
Conrad Hasse was 2-for-3 with two runs scored.
KWRL 10, Moses Lake 3
CALGARY, Alberta — Moses Lake led early 1-0, but fell in its second game of the 14-year-old Babe Ruth Regional Tournament to KWRL 10-3.
Moses Lake held a 1-0 advantage until KWRL scored eight runs in the third inning. Moses Lake added two runs in the bottom half of the third.
Merit Jansen scored on a passed ball and Kamden Kuykendall scored on a sacrifice fly ball.
Julian Egia and Kevin Reyes drove in one run each.
