District 1 teams sweep on Day 1 of state

BASEBALL TOURNAMENTS

At Croffoot Park

AGE 8-10

Coeur d’Alene 12, Southwest Ada 2: Travis Usdrowski hit a three-run home run, Zach Bell doubled and drove in two, and Casen Miller added a two-run single for Coeur d’Alene in the first game of the best-of-3 series for the state title.

Cam Olson had an RBI single for Southwest Ada.

Game 2 is today at 9 a.m. at Croffoot Park.

AGE 9-11

Coeur d’Alene 19, West Valley 8: Cooper Smith hit a grand slam, and AJ Currie and Cooper Erikson also homered for Coeur d’Alene in the first game of the best-of-3 series for the state title.

Jacob Ricks, Wheaton Ennis and Cole Casagrande all had RBI doubles for West Valley, and Thomas Hawthorne had an RBI single.

Game 2 is today at 12:30 p.m. at Croffoot Park.

MAJORS

Lewiston 5, Southwest Ada 1: Chris Ricard struck out 11 in five innings, and Bryce Bensching and Carsen Mader each homered for Lewiston in the first game of the best-of-3 series for the state title.

Ethan Hackney struck out nine in four innings for Southwest Ada, and Korbin McCarney doubled. Game 2 is today at 12:30 p.m. at Croffoot Park.
