Troy School District has been awarded a state-funded STARS Preschool grant of $130,000 to have an in-school preschool which will cater to children ages 4 to 5.
The school applied for the grant in the spring, and learned of their success Thursday, July 20.
“I would have been surprised if we didn’t get it,” said Superintendent Jacob Francom. “But it’s not much time between learning we got the grant and implementing it. Now they are hard at work getting the classroom set up and everything ordered.”
Francom said the preschool will not open with the rest of the school district on Aug. 30, but may wait until later in September. Doing so will allow time to hire a teacher and paraprofessional for the preschool, he said, and give the new staff time to meet with each student and their family.
The new preschool will accommodate 15-18 students, four days a week. Preschool students will have access to all school services, such as school lunch and bus service.
