Local historian and archaeologist Becky Timmons will lead a Lincoln County Archeology tour Saturday, June 17, the Montana Wilderness Association announced Friday. There is no cost to attend.

The tour will teach about the rock ovens, customs and ancient seasonal routes of the Native Americans and about the history of fur trader David Thompson, a news release states. It will also include a visit to a historic fire lookout.

The hike is less than three miles in length with minimal elevation gain. The group will leave from Libby at 9 a.m. and will return early in the afternoon. Hikers should bring water and lunch and wear good walking shoes and weather-appropriate clothing.

Participants must register at wildmontana.org/walks for northwest Montana hike No. 4 (“Lincoln County Archeology”). More details about the meeting location and the day’s schedule will be provided after registration. Children over 10 years of age are welcome if accompanied by an adult.
