Setian's blast lifts Prairie past Coeur d'Alene

POST FALLS — Wyatt Setian’s three-run homer in the bottom of the fifth broke open a close game and lifted the Prairie Cardinals to a 5-2 victory over the Coeur d’Alene Lumbermen in class AA North Idaho League American Legion baseball Wednesday at Post Falls High.
Brock Zeller gave up two runs over five innings for Prairie (4-2, 1-1 NIL), which lost 4-3 at Coeur d’Alene last Thursday. The teams meet again for single games June 21 at Coeur d’Alene and the following day at Post Falls. Jacob Elliott came on in relief in the sixth, and Setian pitched the seventh for the save.
Zeller pitched great today,” Prairie coach Pat Call said. “We had base runners in every inning we worked the counts the way we wanted. I think we could have scored more runs in the middle of the game but we just couldn’t get a hit to break it open. I was very happy the way we played defensively with Zeller pitching into contact, and our defense making plays.”
Levi Haen had two hits and scored two runs for Coeur d’Alene (5-6, 1-1).
“We came out flat for a league game,” Coeur d’Alene coach Kevin Dunton said. “Brett (Stapleton) threw well, he just left one pitch up to a good hitter. And good hitters make you pay.”
Prairie is scheduled to host the Walla Walla Bears on Friday in a 3 p.m. doubleheader at Post Falls High.
Coeur d’Alene’s scheduled Sunday doubleheader was canceled, as Palouse has folded its older team, Dunton said. The Lums are now scheduled to return to action next Wednesday in the Best of the Northwest tournament at Thorco Field.
