Two men allegedly escaped from a car with stolen plates near River Road in Hungry Horse after a short police pursuit Tuesday night.
According to Flathead County Sheriff Chuck Curry, the identity of the men is still unknown. Their companion, a large black dog, was captured and taken to the local animal shelter.
Curry said the pursuit began after an officer ran the plates on the silver Hyundai and they came back as stolen out of Missoula. The men fled the scene when the officer attempted to stop them, then, after a short chase, crashed the car and fled on foot in the direction of the gravel pit on River Road.
A search involving Two Bear Air, Border Patrol, a search dog and the Flathead County Sheriff’s Office produced no leads. The two suspects remianed at large as of Wednesday afternoon, but Curry said he had no reason to believe they were armed.
According to Curry, the case is still under investigation and the search continues for the suspects.
