Troy’s summer meal program begins Monday, June 12 and will run Monday through Friday until August 17.

This year two meals will be served each day at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. at the Troy Baptist Church. Meals are free to anyone under 18.

April Turnage, who is involved in the program through her position as an Americorps volunteer at Morrison Elementary and oversees the state funded No Kid Hungry program, is organizing activities in conjunction with the church so that kids can have fun and be fed at the same time.

The season will kick off with a barbeque on Monday, June 12 from 11 a.m, held at the church, and will include activities like face painting, a whimsical photo booth, relay and three-legged races, a cupcake walk and the always popular dunk tank. The Troy fire department will make an appearance, along with Smokey the bear and a representative from Senator Daines office, Ron Catlett, will read a letter from Senator Steve Daines between 12:15 p.m. and 12:30 p.m.

Throughout the summer, Turnage and church volunteers will facilitate sports, music, arts and crafts, fishing and and even field trips to the lake on meal days. If an under 18 year old needs transport to and from the church, please call 406-295-4206.
