PONDERAY — State party leaders, along with rank-and-file Democrats, will be in Sandpoint this weekend for their quarterly State Central Committee meeting.
Coming from all over the state, Dems will begin their activities Friday afternoon, June 23, with the Resistance Summer kickoff when they will be talking issues and actions with local Democrats.
The state meeting includes a Friday night event at the Best Western/Edgewater. Saturday starts with the Building Blocks Breakfast, a new event aimed at better understanding diversity in all walks of life. State committee meetings and break-out sessions run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. followed by a banquet and fundraiser that evening at 6 p.m. All Saturday events will be held at the Ponderay Events Center.
“We’re excited to host Democrats from all over the state,” said Sylvia Humes, chair of the Bonner County Democrats’ Central Committee. “There is an amazing amount of enthusiasm and energy in our area, and this event provides an even greater opportunity for us to stand up and be counted … where and when it counts.”
The Resistance Summer program, which takes place over the next couple of months, has Idaho Democratic Party field organizers traveling Idaho to energize county parties, work with local volunteer groups, and train activists, according to Shelby Scott of the IDP.
Sandpoint is the first stop on a 14-city plan where organizers will be gathering volunteers to pound the pavement, knock on doors and listen to the voters’ concerns.
