That is how far 78- year old Marie Bolen’s 1999 Dodge Caravan traveled from where it left the roadway to where it came to a rest.

Factor in that 80 feet of that was spent airborne and another 100 feet was spent rolling, it is incredible anyone could survive such a incident.

Miraculously though, that is exactly what happened Tuesday morning at approximately 5:59 a.m.

Shoshone County Sheriff’s deputy Jeff Demery reports that Bolen was traveling Eastbound on Interstate 90 when she veered into the center median at Mile Post 56.6.

Reaching a center divider reserved for emergency service vehicles, Bolen’s vehicle was then launched into the air.

After touching down, the vehicle rolled several times until it came to a rest in the center median.

Emergency crews from Shoshone County Fire District 1 (SCFD1) in Osburn responded shortly after the crash occurred.

Due to the extent of the damage and the position of the vehicle when it came to a rest, firefighter John Miller explained that crews had to remove the front windshield to gain access to Bolen.

This was done by carefully chiseling out the glass and moving it out of the way.

After initially evaluating the situation and Bolen’s injuries, emergency crews removed her from the battered vehicle through the rear hatch.

Bolen was transported to Shoshone Medical Center in Kellogg with undisclosed minor injuries.

Miller said that the unconfirmed cause of the crash was the driver falling asleep at the wheel, but she was wearing her seat belt at the time of the incident.

The Caravan was totaled as a result of the crash and traffic was limited to one lane for a short time as crews cleaned up the scene.
