Candidates file for area mayoral and city council races

With the passing of Monday’s deadline to file for local mayoral and city council races, a list of candidates has emerged.
In Libby, sitting Mayor Brent Teske was the only person to file to run for that office’s four-year-term. For the City Council race, Arlen Magill and sitting council members Gary Armstrong, Gary Beach and Kristin Smith all filed to run for three available seats that each carry a four-year term. In addition, Angel Ford, who was appointed May 30 to replace Allen Olsen after he retired from the City Council on April 27, has filed to run for election.
Troy’s mayoral race attracted three candidates — Charles Ekstedt, Jr., Chris Penner and Dallas Carr — to vie for the four-year position. Only one person, Shawna Kelsey, filed to run for one of the two available seats on the Troy City Council, both of which carry a four-year term.
