GEORGE — The town of George is celebrating Independence Day in its inimitable style with a parade, a classic car show, and the world’s largest cheery pie.
The community describes its 60th annual Fourth of July celebration as “[a] family-friendly, old-fashioned Independence Day in a great American little town.”
The festivities began at 7 a.m. with breakfast in the park, followed by the Cherry Bomb run at 8:30 a.m. (registration begins at 7:30 a.m.), and a parade at 10 a.m. Slices of the “world’s largest cherry pie” will be served at noon, followed by a magic show by Nate Jester at 1 p.m.
There will be an outdoor market with food all day, activities for children, and the Stars and Bars Classic Car Show. Registration for the car show begins at 8:30 a.m.
There will be live music from the Darnell Scott Band and Los Vega, and the day will end with a fireworks show at dusk.
