Lady Fusion competes in Butte

The Flathead Lady Fusion finished in fourth place at the 19U girls state tournament in Butte last weekend.

The Fusion and Missoula Lady Bruins faced off in pool play at the tournament in Butte Friday night suffering a 6-2 loss.

Missoula took an early lead with two goals and added another early in the second period.

Flathead’s Mackenzie Baker answered in the second on a breakaway with a top shelf shot. Missoula responded with another to finish the second period 4-1. Early in the third, Lady Fusion center Maria Makman scored off of a Morgan Baker assist.

Flathead’s goalie Oriana Barber-Castro faced 29 shots on goal. Each team was assessed a single penalty.

Saturday morning, the Lady Fusion met the Moscow Idaho Polar Bears for their second pool play match. They won the match 10-3. Flathead opened with early goals by Julia Sauve unassisted, Elizabeth Klemann off assists from Kacie Barrett and Sidney Zimmerman, Barrett unassisted, and Harriett Grantz from a Maria Makman assist. The Lady Fusion added a goal by captain Amelia Hanko from a Mackenzie Baker assist.

Flathead added a pair of goals by senior captain Greta Roberts from Klemann and Sauve passes, and Hanko unassisted. The Flathead team put three more goals on the board in the third period with goals by Roberts, Mackenzie Baker/Harriett Grantz, and Hanko/Mariah Dickey.

Flathead had three penalties and Moscow was assessed eight with one ejection. Fusion netminder Oriana Barber-Castro saw 18 shots.

Flathead met Bozeman in a tough semifinal game on Saturday, and was unable to answer Bozeman’s six goals.

On Sunday morning, the Fusion faced Glasgow in the consolation game. The final score was 8-4 with Glasgow earning the win.

Flathead’s Greta Roberts opened with an early lead. Elizabeth Klemann added another with assists by Rozsa Csaplar and Roberts. With the score 2-1 Flathead starting the second period, Glasgow had three unanswered goals. Flathead’s Morgan Baker tied the game 4-4 at 3:07 into the third period with an assist from Maria Makman and Sidney Zimmerman. Glasgow ended the game with a scoring run to secure the win.

Flathead was assessed three penalties and Glasgow saw four players in the box.
