I once again ask the community members to be careful of believing everything you read but rather reach out to the LPOSD school district to clarify misinformation.
• SHS administration currently consists of a full-time principal and two full-time assistant principals. Each assistant principal has a master’s degree in educational leadership and conducts teacher evaluations. One of the positions serves as the activities director, and the other position manages student behavior. The positions of activities director and dean of students was eliminated over the last eight years and picked up by the assistant principals as a cost saving measure. (Five positions to three positions)
• National/international student trips are 100-percent fund-raised or paid for by the student’s parents. No taxpayer dollars pay for airfare, hotels, Broadway shows, etc. including the trip to Tanzania.
• The Youth Endowment for Activities Foundation is a non-profit organization to assist high school activity travel expenses. Currently reimbursements are a very small percentage of the cost of travel. Visit yeafoundation.org/ for more information.
In addition, because of the support of the community, the SHS graduation rate has been between 93-95 percent over the last five years and has ranked No. 1 or No. 2 statewide in both math and writing SAT scores for schools who have a junior enrollment between 200-299 students. Time to be proud.
