SCHOOLS: Double that yes

Tuesday, March 14 is the day to VOTE YES twice. YES, for the Coeur d’Alene school facilities bond. YES, for the maintenance and operations levy.

Engaged citizens ask, “Why YES?” The reasons are numerous. Here are a few facts:

1) The operations levy will contribute to safer schools and lower class sizes. YES, those levy dollars will support the purchase of buses with safety belts. And, YES, the levy dollars will keep the learning standard high in Coeur d’Alene. Your YES vote is essential since 22 percent of the district’s total funds to educate all students in Coeur d’Alene School District comes from the local Levy.

2) Did you know that the state of Idaho does not provide funds for the construction of schools? Your investment will help offset the overcrowding the district is experiencing in the northwest sector of the district with the construction of a new elementary school. Also, the bond would replace those portable classrooms at the high school and upgrade security at Lakes Middle School.

3) There will be no change to your tax rate. YES, go to www.cdaschools.org for additional information and facts.

I’m convinced that a healthy education system positively impacts its local community. Your YES votes will help our children stay on their learning path to becoming good citizens. And over time, it will give them increased opportunities to put to good use their talents, skills and gifts which benefit our Coeur d’Alene community in rich and rewarding ways. Please VOTE YES on Tuesday, March 14.
