Chiefs stumble at Victoria

VICTORIA, British Columbia — Matthew Phillips scored the game-winner on the second straight night, sending the Victoria Royals to a 4-3 win over the Spokane Chiefs in Western Hockey League play in front of 6,059 on Saturday at the Save-on-Foods Arena.

Victoria swept the season series 4-0, two coming in overtime, and clinched a playoff spot with the win. Tri-City also clinched.

Portland (35-26-1-3, 74 points) can clinch a playoff spot with two wins, or two Spokane losses.

Hudson Elynuik scored back-to-back goals in the second period to give Spokane a 3-1 lead before Victoria rallied to tie it at 3-3 after the second.

Spokane (26-28-7-3, 62 points) travels to Seattle on Tuesday.
