MOSES LAKE — The Grant County Auditor will conduct a hand recount of last month’s Moses Lake School District construction bond on Thursday at the Grant County courthouse in Ephrata, beginning at 9 a.m.
The school construction bond, intended to build a second high school to hold the growing number of students in Moses Lake as well as an eleventh elementary school, and refurbish Moses Lake High School, passed by three votes — 5,678 “yes” votes to 3,781 “no” votes, with one undervote — for a total of 60.03 percent.
Six Moses Lake voters signed a petition demanding a recount, as well as put up the more than $2,000 needed to pay for a hand recount.
For nearly all of the 10 days between Election Day on Feb. 14 and the day the ballot was finally certified, Feb. 24, the measure trailed by about four votes.
