March 9, 1967 — PRESIDENTS HONORED

A steak dinner held at the Elks Club and catered by Travelers Motel last week honored past Kiwanis club presidents. Those recognized included Floyd Gray, Lou Rahskopf, Floyd Perks, Ross Hall, Leonard Mitchell, William Kennedy, Dr. C. C. Wendle, Kermit Miller, Charles Selle, Norm Bauer, Dale Lee, Ward Tifft, Bob Kalb, Karl Greef, Lou Oestmann, Harlan Walker, Alva P. Reeves, Jack Jones and current president Fred Merrill.

DOVER MEN ENLIST IN NAVY

Randy Becker, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Becker, Dover, and Steve Verwolf, son of Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Verwolf, also of Dover, have enlisted in the U. S. Navy and are undergoing nine weeks of recruit training at the Naval Training Center at San Diego. Both men are graduates of Sandpoint Senior High School.

LESS THAN ONE PERCENT IDLE

The Idaho Department of Employment reported the number of people unemployed increased to .087 percent of the labor force in Bonner and Boundary counties last week. The report said that most area loggers shut down operations during last week due to spring break up.

March 9, 1917 — WOOD PAVING

If Sandpoint does more paving the coming season, why not try out the wooden creosote block? It makes good sense that if the cities can afford to ship in wooden blocks from long distances in competition with asphalt, the country that produces them and a town that lives from the productions of the forest should have wooden paving, if for no other reason than that wood paving would appear to be proper in the land of larch and tamarack.

JOHN BARLEYCORN GETS ANOTHER JOLT

John Barleycorn received a jolt beneath the belt when the house by a vote of 39 to 20 passed a bill prohibiting the circulation of papers and periodicals in Idaho carrying liquor advertising. The bill also prohibits price lists from being mailed into the state, and makes it unlawful for billboards in the state to post liquor advertisements.

WOULD CHANGE NAME OF BLACKTAIL

Henry H. Armstead, purchaser of the Keystone mine at Blacktail, hopes to obtain a change of name for the post office which is located on the property to Rainbow instead of Blacktail.

SCORE ONE FOR “DOC” MOODY

The legislature has passed a bill championed by “Doc” which makes a public utility pay six per cent interest on deposits for meters. Now if he will get one through by which we will be paid six per cent interest on all the money we’ve paid the local water works company we will be satisfied.
