New plan for Dingle building

Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 7 years, 10 months AGO
| March 12, 2017 12:00 AM

The possibility of a new downtown boutique hotel in the historic Dingle building at 402 E. Sherman Ave. evidently won’t happen.

New owners Craig and Debbie Ward have decided the hassles and expenses are too much. Space for parking and a loading-unloading zone just aren’t there, and the complete renovating of the three-story building is just too much.

Now their plan is to maintain the building with its current uses and renovate areas when and as they need it. With two of the major main floor businesses leaving (Johannes Jewelry and the Sports Cellar, with the owners semi-retiring) at the end of the month, the Wards are hoping to attract new businesses. They hope one could be a restaurant. The current Tiffany Blue store will stay.

The second and third floors will remain designed for primarily offices and small businesses. Several of the current occupants will remain there, and other spaces are available. If a fourth story is added, it would probably become residences. The original building had a fourth story that burned in 1957. The Wards are doing most of the renovations themselves.

The Wards discovered Coeur d’Alene as “the most desirable and beautiful place to live” online and moved here three years ago from Cottonwood, Calif. (near Redding), where they were ranchers, farmers and real estate investors. Craig’s phone is 449-5459.

Advanced Health Care

has grand opening

Bridging the gap between a hospital stay and returning home, the 34-suite, 30,000-square-foot Advanced Health Care complex opens this week at 1578 Riverstone Drive.

Privately owned by native Idahoans, Advanced Health Care is a skilled nursing facility that specializes in short-term nursing and

rehabilitation services. All patient rooms are private suites with 24-hour nursing care, in-patient physical, occupational and speech therapies and restaurant-like dining facilities. The complex includes a gym, whirlpool bath, library with computers, beauty salon, barber shop and patio.

The grand opening and open house has been this weekend with today from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Regular “checking-it-out” hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays. phone 769-0400. Check www.ahcfacilities.com.

Now 15 years old, Advanced Health Care has 22 facilities in seven states.

Metro PCS opens

in Post Falls

Calls to more than 75 countries are a feature of Metro PCS which has opened a new office in Suite 102 at 740 N. Cecil Road (south of Mullan Road) in Post Falls.

The national cellphone carrier merged with T-Mobile in 2012 with data plans and deals on new phones and new lines of service. It offers phones, car chargers and accessories.

Hours are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon to 6 p.m. Sundays. Its Cd’A place is in Suite E of Ironwood Square (east of Albertsons). Check www.metropcs.com.

Vanity closing in

Silver Lake Mall

With Vanity stores closing in the company’s 140 locations, this includes its outlet in Silver Lake Mall.

The store offers women’s clothing, shoes, accessories and jewelry. The liquidation sale is 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. Phone 762-2115. Check www.vanity.com.

Now for the Tidbits

- Evidently the Popeye’s Louisiana Kitchen eatery planned for Post Falls isn’t going to happen. Watch for some changes in the Resort Plaza Shops. And Sotheby’s Realty will move into the neighboring former art gallery downtown.

- The Emerald Cleaners building at Fourth and Montana Avenue will be a new Midtown pub. And a real estate business will be in the southern portion near the Bluebird restaurant.

- The Ugly Fish restaurant in Riverstone will be replaced with another Asian eatery called Umami Ramen. Watch for Kitchen CDA in the Silver Lake Mall food court. Spies say other stores are coming into the mall also. Taco Loco will be where Valentino’s Pizza was off Canfield Avenue. A Cash & Carry store will be behind Wendy’s off Appleway.

- In Hayden, an Asian eatery will be where Kynrede Cafe was on Government Way. A major development called The Crossroads is proposed for Athol. Watch for details. We anticipate a Super 1, a bank, coffee shop, a motel, a gas station-convenience store, a restaurant and others.

- Downtown — Watch for Rustic Restaurant at 309 Sherman (next to Clark’s Jewelry).

- Domino’s Pizza is moving to a new place in Post Falls. New places coming to Tedder Business Center (formerly the Post Falls Outlet Mall) north building will include Black-Ops Self Defense, Knowhere Comics, Coffee & Games, SNR Costume Rental, The Coffee House and My Big Fat Greek Deli.

- Closing their businesses because their historic Dingle building at Fourth and Sherman is changing, Johannes Jewelry and the Sports Cellar are having big sales. Johannes is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday. The Sports Cellar hours are 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. weekdays and until 5 p.m. Saturdays. Phone 664-9464. Check www.sportscellarcda.com.

- Closing with retirements after 50 years, Little Mo’s Optical at 1720 Lincoln Way is having a closing sale until the end of March. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and 11 to 5 Saturdays. Phone 664-4011.

- Be great at multi-tasking. Waste time, be unproductive and procrastinate all at once.

- A real sign: “Toilet out of order. Please use floor below.”

- I actually heard a woman say these three sentences in a row last week. “Oh, boy.” “Oh, man!” and “Oh, brother.” Not mentioning a girl, woman or sister.
