The first qualifying tournament in the Western Montana Little Guy Wrestling Program began Saturday as teams from Superior/Alberton, Plains/Hot Springs, Thompson Falls, Bonner, and Missoula hit the mats at the Superior High School.

There were beginners, novice and middle where the beginners received blue and red ribbons. Novice and middle placed in brackets for the 2017 Unit 3 Tournament.

“This is a great tournament for our kids and our wrestling family. A lot of time and effort goes into putting these tournaments on,” said event coordinator, Charlie Crabb.

“We want to thank Stacy Ververis and Laurel Haskins for running the tournament on the computer along with the volunteers at the tables and concessions and the referees who have gone through the little guy program and are now wrestling in high school or have come back as alumni,” Crabb said “This is a great family sport and we could not do it without the support of our Clark Fork Wrestling Family.”

He said there will be one more qualifier in Plains next Friday and Saturday, March 17-18. Also, Juniors do not wrestle at the unit tournament and automatically advance to the Inter-Valley Tournament.
