Traveling around the world just got a whole lot easier. The eighth annual Multicultural Faire will bring community members food, song, dance and more from countries around the world and cultures in our backyard.

Saturday, April 8, the doors of Lakes Magnet Middle School will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. so people can learn about other cultures. Admission is free.

“It’s a great way to get people together to share their heritage, culture and talent and to celebrate the diversity of our community,” said Kristin Odenthal, the faire coordinator and a sixth-grade teacher at Lakes Magnet Middle School.

Information tables will have artifacts from Ireland, Scotland, Russia, Italy and other nations. International food will be for sale and local musicians such as Deep Roots and Gary Edwards will bring Celtic and Spanish tunes to the faire. The drumming team from Sorensen Magnet School of the Arts and Humanities will also be playing.

The Coeur d’Alene Tribe will perform native dances and the Indian Education director from the Coeur d’Alene School District will be doing Native American storytelling with the help of students.

Students from Lakes Magnet Middle School will be sharing their project on multicultural super heroes. The students researched people such as Malala, Ghandi and Nelson Mandela, who have fought for human rights.

“People can learn about the similarities and differences between cultures,” Odenthal said. “I think that’s really needed and important in our community.”
