There are a lot of school board seats up for election in May in Kootenai County, and only one seat has a contested race. Another seat doesn’t have any candidates running.

Lisa May and John Rubert are both running for the Zone 1 seat on the Coeur d’Alene School Board and no one is running for the Zone 5 seat on the Kootenai Joint School District’s board.

Forty-three community members filed for candidacy for Kootenai County’s 28 open seats for highway district commissioners, hospital and library trustees, water and sewer board members and directors, and school board trustees.

Here are this year’s candidates up for election May 16:

Coeur d’Alene School Board (Four-year term) Zone 1 Candidates: Lisa May and John Rubert Zone 4 Candidates: Dave Eubanks Zone 5 Candidates: Tom Hearn

Lakeland School Board (Four-year term) Zone 4 Candidates: Brian Wallace Zone 5 Candidates: Larry Brown

Post Falls School Board (Four-year term) Zone 1 Candidates: Dave Paul Zone 4 Candidates: Bridget Eismann Zone 5 Candidates: Carol Goodman

Kootenai Joint School Board (Four-year term) Zone 1 Candidates: Kimmy Galle Zone 4 Candidates: Carrie Hugo Zone 5 Candidates: No Candidate Filed

Plummer Worley School Board (Four-year term) Zone 1 Candidates: Mona Daniels Zone 3 Candidates: Ida Gustin

Consolidated Free Library Board Candidates for the six-year term: Judith Centa Meyer, Regina McCrea, and Jason Ball (There are two seats open) Candidates for the four-year term: Carl Gidlund and Robert Fish

Kootenai Hospital District Board (six-year term) There are two seats open. Candidates: Richard Barclay, Thomas de Tar, Teri Farr, Randil Clark

East Side Highway District Commissioner (Four-year term) Sub-district 2 Candidates: John Austin, Terry Sverdsten, and Mark Thyr

Lakes Highway District Commissioner (Four-year term) Sub-district 1 Candidates: Rod Twete and Laurin Scarcello

Post Falls Highway District Commissioner (Four-year term) Sub-district 1 Candidates: Terry Werner Sub-district 2 Candidates: Robert Balser and Todd Tondee

Worley Highway District #4 Commissioner (Four-year term) Sub-district 2 Candidates: David Johnson and Corinne Johnson

Hackney Water and Sewer Board (Six-year term) There are two seats open. Candidates: No Candidate Filed

Harbor View Estates Water and Sewer Commissioner (Six-year term) There are two seats open. Commissioner Candidates: James Ingle and Craig Harlen

Kingston-Cataldo Sewer District Board (Six-year term) There are two seats open. Board Member Candidates: Heather James and Ron Costa

North Kootenai Water Board (Two-year term) Seat #4 Candidates: Thomas Gwin

According to the Kootenai County Elections Office, if no one declares candidacy or files to be a write-in candidate for any of the positions up for election, districts will appoint someone according to their statutory requirements.

The deadline to file as a write-in candidate is 5 p.m. April 3. All necessary paperwork is available at the Kootenai County Elections Office, 1808 N. Third St. in Coeur d’Alene.
