It's that time again for high school seniors in Sandpoint, Priest River and Clark Fork to start thinking about college scholarships.

Applications for the $1,000 Alvie C. Jeffres Memorial Scholarship can be picked up at Sandpoint High School, First Baptist Church, Priest River Lamanna High School, Clark Fork High School and Lake Pend Oreille High School.

The scholarship was set up in memory of Alvie Jeffres, who was a prominent Sandpoint business man for many years and who enjoyed helping young people.

Those applying for the scholarship must be enrolled in or applying to any college, university, trade school or institution of post-high school education. The recipient can reapply each year for four year if the student qualifies and maintains a 2.5 GPA as a full-time student. Students who have been home-schooled or educated in private schools are encouraged to apply as well.

Completed applications must be turned in to the counselor's office at Sandpoint High School or submitted to the office of the First Baptist Church, 1230 Michigan St., by April 30.
