Kenneth Lee Mott lost his battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease) on Sunday morning, March 26, 2017.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 1, 2017, at the First Baptist Church with Pastor Ken Smith officiating. Interment will take place at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 1, 2017, at the Newport City Cemetery, Newport, Washington.

Ken was born on Jan. 11, 1935 in Newport to Gerald and Linda (Unruh) Mott and lived on the farm in Spring Valley, Washington, until they moved to Sandpoint, Idaho.

Ken graduated from Sandpoint High School in 1953 and joined the Army in November 1953. He was a paratrooper in Korea, attached to the 101st Airborne and was discharged in October 1956.

Ken married Betty Anderson (Hughes) in Sandpoint in October 1957. They had two daughters, Deana and Jerry. After attending aircraft mechanic school in Oklahoma, they moved to Minnesota, where he worked for North Central Airlines. Ken, Betty, and the girls moved back to Sandpoint in September 1969. Ken joined his father as an electrician, Jerry Mott & Sons Electric.

Ken changed professions with the encouragement of Gene Vanhorn, bought a logging truck and was a self-employed logger, K&J Logging.

Ken was remarried in February 1983 to Joy (Clark) Breeden with her two children, Carie and Kenny. Raquel Rief joined the crew, completing the family.

Ken changed professions again and started driving tanker for PNF Oil in Sandpoint. Ken’s final job was driving fuel tanker for Kerr Oil in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, commuting, rain or shine, for 20 years on his cherished motorcycle until he retired in 2002.

Ken enjoyed retirement. He and Joy took several trips on the Harleys and did woodworking. Ken enjoyed the gardens and flowers around their home, especially the roses.

Ken is survived by his two siblings, Inez (George) Petersen of Longview, Washington, and Stan (Peggy) Mott from Prairie Grove, Arkansas; his wife, Joy; his children, Deana (Jeff) Sleep, Jerry Mott, Carie (Cody) Keeley, Raquel (Tom) Brown, and Kenny Breeden (Denya Spielman); grandchildren, KJ, Delaney, Bryce, Logan, Tyler, Haley, and Jordie; numerous great-grandchildren; and Fannie, his faithful dog. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gerald and Linda Mott.

Memorials may be made to the Panhandle Animal Shelter in Ponderay, or the charity of your choice.

Family and friends are invited to sign Ken’s online guest book at coffeltfuneral.com.

Arrangements are under the care of Coffelt Funeral Service.
