MOSES LAKE — Moses Lake was on the wrong end of a frenetic final 20 minutes and lost to Davis 3-2.

“I’m still trying to take it all in because it’s just been the theme of our year,” head coach Rian Allred said. “We’ve had chance after chance after chance... We created a lot of quality chances to score and we just didn’t capitalize.”

Rafael Diaz scored his second goal of the game in the 61st minute, building a 2-0 lead for the Pirates. However, Moses Lake midfielder Erik Vega immediately won a ball from Daniel Sinchuk and streaked up the right sideline for a goal less than a minute later. Later, freshman forward Oscar Olvera rocketed a shot into the top left corner of the net to tie the game with about four minutes to play.

Thinking they were on the cusp of extra time, the Chiefs were stunned when Davis forward Alexis Arellano broke free to score past Eddie Reyes in the 78th minute.

There won’t be much time to regroup as Moses Lake travels to reigning 4A champion Wenatchee on Friday.

Ephrata 2, Ellensburg 1 (SO)

EPHRATA — In what head coach Ivan Garay described as the craziest shootout ever, Ephrata outlasted Ellensburg 2-1 to open its league schedule with a win.

Jirvin Espinoza evened the game in the second half and Danny Ramirez scored the game-winner in the shootout.

Quincy 2, Wapato 1

QUINCY — Kevin Rios assisted on two goals and Quincy beat Wapato 2-1.

Miguel Lopez and Saul Buenrostro scored a goal a piece in the second half. Wapato scored late on a free kick.

Toppenish 1, Othello 0

TOPPENISH — A mistake in goal cost Othello in a 1-0 loss to Toppenish.

A long through ball took a big bounce near the 18 yard line and a Wildcats forward chipped it past the Huskies’ keeper.

Wahluke 1, Royal 0

ROYAL CITY — Wahluke hunkered down defensively and stunned previously unbeaten Royal 1-0.

Emmanuel Hidalgo scored the lone goal of the game in the 46th minute.

The Knights out-shot the Warriors 12-6.

Baseball

Zillah 13, Warden 3

ZILLAH — Zillah scored seven runs in the sixth inning and beat Warden 13-3.

Both teams were tied 3-3 after four innings. J.R. Delgado and Carlos Reyes had RBI singles.

East Valley 6, Othello 0

OTHELLO — Othello was unable to get to starting pitcher Lucas Juarez until the late innings and fell to East Valley 6-4.

After a shaky first inning, Othello starter A.J. Pruneda ate up five innings before Sakiel Garza supplied two innings of relief.

Freshman Josh Garza drove in a run for the Huskies. The Red Devils’ Chase Oldham homered.

Soap Lake 3, Pateros 0

SOAP LAKE — Jackson Gray struck out 10 and had a no-hitter in Soap Lake’s 3-0 win against Pateros.

Head coach Austin Chamberlin said Gray did a good job of mixing up his pitches and keeping the ball low in the zone.

Brayden Winters drove in a run in the first inning and Colton Minoletti had a two-run double in the second.

Prosser 9, Quincy 8

PROSSER — Quincy baseball lost a road game to Prosser 9-8.

Pateros 14, Soap Lake 2

SOAP LAKE — Soap Lake softball dropped a home game to Pateros 14-2.

Moses Lake swept by Wenatchee

WENATCHEE — Wenatchee boys tennis bested Moses Lake in a match-up between two unbeaten teams in the Columbia Basin Big Nine.

The Panthers won three out of four singles matches and swept the doubles portion to win 6-1. Brian Nguyen picked up the Chiefs’ lone victory in No. 3 singles over Spencer Van Schalie 6-2, 7-6 (7-5).

In the girls’ competition, Moses Lake lost to Wenatchee 7-0. Brianna Ceja nearly pulled off a win in the No. 4 singles match but lost to Rebecca Devereaux 6-1, 4-6, 6-4.
