SANDPOINT — Senior Bri Baldree spun a two-hitter with nine strikeouts, and also ripped two doubles to go with three runs and three RBIs to lead the Bulldogs to a 11-1 win over Moscow in the opening game of a doubleheader sweep over Moscow in 4A Inland Empire League softball action Monday at Sandpoint Middle School.
Bri Barlow added two hits and three runs, and Kaitlan Ward two hits and three RBIs for the Bulldogs (8-3, 5-0 4A IEL), who clinched the coveted No. 1 seed for the district tournament.
Bulldog head coach Elizabeth Hawkins-Williams had high praise for her team’s play in all phases.
“We’re so productive up and down in the batting order,” she said. “Clutch hitting, moving runners over with the short game.”
Tanis Davis went the distance in the nightcap, allowing just five hits and two runs in a quality start. Baldree had another three hits and three RBIs, Ward and Barlow each scored three runs, and Audrey Matilla added two RBIs. While the offense produced, it was the pitching that Hawkins-Williams loved most.
“Bri came out with the dominant performance we’ve come to expect,” she said. “Tanis continues to keep hitters off balance. She’s got one of the best drop balls I’ve ever seen.”
The Bulldogs will travel south to face the Bears in a doubleheader on Thursday, with forecasts calling for 70 degree temps.
