The Columbia Falls softball team hit the tar out of the ball, downing Hamilton 17-4 at the Frenchtown Invitational Saturday.

Sydney Hovde, KJ Schweikert and Trista Cowan all homered in the rout.

Hovde had four RBIs, Schweikert and Kaylee Ashe had three, and Cowan had two. Hovde went 4-for-4 and also had a double.

The Wildkats lost a tight game to Libby 6-5. A box score was unavailable.

“We out-hit them,” said coach Dave Kehr. “But we had too many errors.”

Overall, Kehr is pleased with the progress of the team, despite the soggy weather.

“They’re hitting the ball really well,” he said.

The Wildkats were scheduled to play Whitefish at home last Thursday, but it was rained out.

This week they face Whitefish in a doubleheader Thursday. Rain has hampered the schedule to say the least. It rained every day last week.

The Whitefish games are scheduled for 4 and 6 p.m. respectively.

On Tuesday, the Kats walloped Flathead, 11-1. Tessa Cowan clocked a homer in the win.
